Preparation-2, Banff
On May 7, 2010, we biked from Calgary to Banff, a 130 km trip. We started at 8 a.m. and rode on road 1-A up to Canmore, and from Canmore to Banff, we rode on Highway 1 (TransCanada). The trip was about 8 hours pedaling. We got to Banff at 4:30 p.m. We slept in a hostel (Alpine Center) near Banff downtown. I came back to Calgary on May 8 by bus ( I had to disassemble my bike and put it in a cardboard box). Mohsen Stayed in Banff to attend a conference. He will come back to Calgary on Monday, May 10.
Special Thanks to our backup in Calgary, my dear friend, ALI BERAHMANI.
Preparation-1, Bragg Creek
We have been working out and exercising specifically for this trip during the past 8 months. However our first outdoor exercise with our new bikes was on May 1, 2010. We biked from Calgary to Bragg Creek, a 90 km trip which took about 4 hours. We started at 10 a.m. , arrived at 12, rested for 2 hours and returned to Calgary at 4 p.m. Some photos and the map of the trip are uploaded here.
Meeting " FCLCC" Friends
On April 29, 2010, we met our friend (Majid), a volunteer with "Friends of Children of Labour Cultural Centre (FCLCC)", and shared our idea of this bike trip with him. He Suggested that we write a proposal for our plan and after discussing with the other volunteers of FCLCC he let us know about their opinion. He contacted us later, and... yes... they agreed to collaborate with us!
Buying Bikes
On April 24, 2010 we bought two hybrid (cross) bikes and accessories for the journey. After buying the bikes the storm and rain started, and we returned home in a very harsh weather. Our bikes experienced a tough condition at the very beginning of the their life with us and they passed it very well.
Introduction
Hello
We, a group of students at university of Calgary, Canada, are planning a bike trip from Calgary to Vancouver in July 2010 with the aim of fundraising for "children of labour", the Afghan and Iranian working children suffering from acute poverty. We collaborate with our great friends at "Friends of Children of Labour Cultural Centre (FCLCC)".
In this blog we will write about the preparation for this trip, experiences, diary of the journey, and everything related to this event.
