Our Sponsor

On June 29, we met Mr. Abbas Keshmiri, the president of House of Persian Rugs. He generously accepted to sponsor our fund raising trip. We met him at his gallery located at 221-10 Ave. SW, Calgary. Getting to know Mr. Keshmiri was a true pleasure for us. We were also fascinated by the exquisite gallery of the Persian rugs.

Preparation-8, Calgary-Cochrane-Bragg Creek-Calgary

This Saturday was the last major preparation trip before the July 3rd kick start. We started from Arbour Lake and cycled to Cochrane. After a short stop, we turned south to Cowboy road and continued on to Bragg Creek. One thing to mention was the SW wind which was against us up to Bragg Creek. It can easily drop your speed by 5 to 10 km/hr. We then took highway 22x to Calgary and finished the trip at Somerset C-Train station. Highway 22x has lots of up and downs and is not recommended if you are not sure you are fit enough.
The trip was 95 km and 6 hrs including a 1 hr stop at Bragg Creek. You can find the exact direction below.

Preparation-7, Calgary-Cochrane-Spring Bank-Calgary

We took another preparation trip on Saturday. We started from Arbour Lake and cycled to Cochrane. After a short stop, we turned south to Cowboy road which is a very cycling friendly route. We then turned east to township road 250 parallel to Trans Canada highway and from there to home. The trip was 60 km and took 3.5 hrs. Among the training routes that I have taken this was among the best. You can find the exact direction below.

Preparation-6, Cochrane

We cycled to Cochrane on Sunday. It was a 43 km trip which took around 2:45 hrs including a 15 minute stop in downtown Cochrane. As always, the ice cream shop in Cochrane was busy. On the way back, there is a steep hill in which you elevate about 200m over a 2.5 km distance. It is very hard to pedal up, but recommended for training purposes. See the pictures below.

Urban Training - 2

The weather was so nice on Saturday that we couldn't resist going out. We pedaled from NW to the river bank and from there to Mountain Equipment Coop to buy some equipments and then cycled back. There were lots of things going on around the Eau Claire area. Here are some pictures.

Urban Training - 1

Today, we went from Arbour Lake NW to Heartland Cafe in the Kensington area. The weather was really nice. We rode about 35km which took about 3 hrs back and forth, with the coffee stop of course :) There was a very steep hill in Nose Hill Drive on the way back - about 2km non stop. It showed me that I need more uphill strength training.
